- Meeting - Monday, 9/3 at 11:30 am-12:15 pm (bottom floor of the VT Library)
- Read Durso's Evidence-Based Human Factors Guidelines for PowerPoint Presentations
- Bring your calendars
- We may go over my PK talk again for fine-tuning
- Need to discuss 9/13 & 9/20 meeting options
- Pecha Kucha Night 3 - Wednesday, 9/5, 6-9 pm; talks start at 7 pm; I should be on at around 8 (Lyric Theatre, 135 College Ave., Blacksburg)
- Blacksburg Toasmasters Meeting - Thursday, 9/6, 6:30-8:30 pm (Blacksburg Public Library, 200 Miller Ave near Draper Ave). See Facebook Page too.
- Bring a checkbook or CC to join the club. I think it is $56. Betty will hook you up.
- OPTIONAL! Gobblerfest Toastmasters Table - Friday, 9/7, 4-8 pm (VT Drillfield). I will likely work this from 5-7 or so.
- We will discuss this - an optional event, but hopefully you can help for an hour or 2 and meet some folks and fellow-students.
- Meeting - Thursday, 9/13/12 - I will be coming back from a trip (in Atlanta), so I we will discuss meeting options for this week.
- Likely reading and prep for one or more of you to give a 9/20 Toastmasters Presentation(s)
- OPTIONAL! (registration required) - Blacksburg Start-up weekend - Friday, 9/14-Sunday 9/16 - Pre-pitch coaching sessions.
- I am on deck to help with teams of entrepreneurers during this 54-hour event, likely:
- Sat, 9/15 from about 12-3, and Sunday, 9/16 from 12-5.
- Meeting - Thursday, 9/20/12 - I may again be out of town (or leaving that day), so hopefully we can meet Wed night or earlier on Thursday.
- Meeting - Thursday, 9/27/12 - Back on track with our regular 6:30-8:30 pm meeting
- Crunch time for the 10/5-10/6 workshop!
- Meeting - Thursday, 10/4/12- Regular 6:30-8:30 pm meeting.
- Planning Effective Presentations class - Fri., 10/5, 5-9 pm & Sat. 10/6, 9 am-5pm

September 1, 2012 - Course Syllabus
Course as: UAP 4964/5964 or MGT 3964
Title: Planning Presentations Internship or Field Study
Purpose: This new program is offered for an independent
student interesting in learning about and applying presentations skills, beyond
the classroom.

The internship/field-study is a "non-traditional"
position in that it will be mostly evenings (Thursdays), and the student would
be assisting Dr. Olsen personally with 4-5 presentations this fall, and would
provide a unique opportunity for the right person. Activities would include
assisting me with and supporting 5 presentations:
1. Wed., 9/5/12, 6-8 pm (Pecha
Kucha presentation at the Lyric in Blacksburg, VA)
2. Fri., 10/5 (5-9 pm) & Sat.,
10/6/12 (9am-5 pm) (presentation workshop at VT, AA 114)
3. Mon., 10/22/12 (slidedesign workshop in Boston, MA) (distance support)
4. Thurs., 11/1/12 (FDI
course, part 1, 10am-12 pm, Torgersen)
5. Thurs., 11/8/12 (FDI
course, part 2, 10am-12pm, Torgersen)
Activities
including:

Participating
in Toastmasters on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month (9/6, 9/20,10/4, 10/18,
11/6, 12/6) from 6:30-8:30 pm

Meeting
with me individually on the 2nd and 4th Thursday (also evening) of the month
for presentation training/review of readings, with a first meeting sometime on
9/3/12.
